BIOGRAPHY

Kate Wilson (b. 1973, Salem, MA, USA) explores the healing effects of natural forms on the human psyche, emphasizing refinement and optical illusion across several mediums.

Her paintings focus on sculptural elements, often floating on color fields and interacting with light. In her upcycled sculptures, Wilson transforms mass-produced consumer goods into organic forms that float at the ceiling, cascade down the wall, and glow in the dark. She also is known for her large-scale, limited-edition photography on aluminum panels that twist reality. Most of Wilson's work contains hidden messages that involve the viewer on a higher level.

Wilson lives and works in Rhode Island. She received her BS from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY (1995) and taught elementary school, where she witnessed the serenity of curiosity firsthand. This inspired her to earn a Postbaccalaureate Certificate from the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI (2014). That led to a career in fine art, combining her love of cogitation and simplicity of form. Her work has been juried and curated into many exhibitions in the United States and abroad.

The artist has participated in exhibitions at the Berkshire Art Museum, MA; Newport Art Museum, RI; Bristol Art Museum; University of Rhode Island, RI; National Association of Women Artists, NY; Providence Art Club, RI; Atelier Newport, RI; Candida Clayton Gallery, RI; among others.

In early 2024, the Kips Bay Palm Beach Show House showcased nine of Kate's paintings. In 2019, the Bristol Art Museum, RI, recognized Wilson as one of twelve" regional abstract artists to watch." The Rhode Island Council for the Arts acknowledged her talent, selecting her for a solo Block Island Airport Gallery exhibition. Kate was invited to install her ''Hope For ThePlanet'' aerial sculpture in the Rhode Island State House's rotunda, where visitors could contribute their wishes for the planet to the thousands already present. Her art has found a home in private and commercial collections worldwide, including a 12 x 8-foot commission in the New England Institute of Technology residence hall and hotels along the Florida coast. Wilson's dedication to her craft is evident in her Rhode Island studio, where she draws inspiration from nature and writing poetry.
