Hope for the Planet

I had a recurring dream to create an ethereal, winged sculpture to offer safe-haven for hope. This dream has become a journey of global connection and community.

I am collecting wishes for the Earth and incorporating them into the inner section of my aerial sculpture.

EXPERIENCE THE SCULPTURE
When one stands underneath and looks up into the wing-like filters, lifting their chest and opening their heart, there is an involuntary intake of breath that cleanses. Walk into your world with a shifted perspective and pass it on.

Believe in the power of positivity and join the movement.

  • I have made a downloadable PDF for anyone who would like to fill out a wish. Each page contains nine Wish Papers. You may fill out only one or collect wishes from your friends and family. If you are interested in collecting wishes for her project, you may print out multiple pages.

  • When filling out your paper, I ask for your first name, the age you feel, and your wish.

  • You may stop by my studio to fill out your Wish Paper or drop off the completed pages. You can also mail them to my studio:

I am seeking donations to help support this project. Thank you for believing in the power of positivity!

SYMBOLISM

  • My sculpture measures about eight feet in all directions. The number eight symbolizes infinity, rebirth, and abundance. Each Wish Paper is rolled into the shape of an unfurling seedling, revealing a name or age but concealing the wish. The handwriting unique to the individual shows, cueing the concept of our individuality blending in a common mission-spiraling up together for hope.

  • The Wish Papers measure three inches by three and a half inches. The number three represents all: the beginning, middle, and end, or the Earth, water, and beyond, as well as the body, mind, and spirit. The number three and a half symbolizes things still in progress, unfinished. I have suspended the wishes in an abstracted double helix to symbolize DNA, common to all life on Earth.

  • I Earthed the outer haven, I Love You, with commercial coffee filters to symbolize community and connection. When you ask someone to have coffee with you, you say I want to spend time together, connecting as equals, sharing an experience.

  • These nests of coffee filters are grouped in twos and nines. The number two is associated with harmony, balance, partnership, and love. Ninee symbolizes universal love, spiritual awakening, enlightenment, and humanitarianism.

  • I used ferrous metal and magnets to represent the pull of Earth. Whether you are on the left or right politically, we are all held firmly to the same planet.
